"Come Spend A While Wi' Us" is the 21st annual CD by the students of the National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music, recorded under the challenging circumstances of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The album contains a mix of traditional and contemporary material chosen, arranged, and often composed by the students themselves. The Centre is proud to be able to provide an outlet for the creativity of these talented young people and to see the great Scottish musical tradition being kept moving forward as a consequence.
"This was the first full academic session of our existence in which we did no live performing whatsoever, and it hurt. But music, and musicians, are made of stern stuff, and these recordings are another demonstration of how tough young people can be, especially when they get the right support...We must surely be able to think that by the time the next album comes along, we'll have had the chance to see you in person at a performance somewhere. In the meantime, we invite you to use the music on this album as a means to Spend A While Wi' Us." Dougie Pincock, Director, Sgoil Chiùil na Gàidhealtachd.
