A mixture of music and songs by students on the Scottish Music courses of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
A spectacular mix of virtuosity and vibrance describes the students on the BA and PG Dip Scottish Music course at the acclaimed Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow. Hailing from Scotland, America, Canada, and England, the talented musicians draw their influence from the myriad of Scottish music.
The students of the Scottish Music courses are united by a love of traditional tunes and songs, combining fiddles, Highland, Border and small pipes, flutes, whistles, piano, guitar, voice, harp, cello, accordion and bodhran to create their eclectic sound.
No strangers to the Scottish music scene, the course includes accomplished talent like Paul McKenna, whose band recently won Best Up And Coming Act at the Scots Trad Music Awards 2009, and piper James MacKenzie, a finalist of the 2008 Young Traditional Musician of the Year Awards.
Over the summer of 2009, a number of students on the course played alongside Paolo Nutini and Phil Cunningham at the high profile festival T In The Park, and several fiddlers accompanied Phil at the 2009 BBC live broadcast at Hogmanay. This album was recorded by all four year groups under the direction of Phil Cunningham and Findlay Napier, displaying the exciting sound of the RSAMD's Scottish Music programme.
The dynamic sound and energetic performance created by the enthusiastic students pushes convention while continuing the path of tradition.
