A selection of songs from John and Tim, two of Ireland's finest traditional singers.
The brothers were born in the 1930s in Cork and were reared in North Cork very near Sliabh Luachra (The Rushy Mountain), an area rich in music.
For much of their lives brothers John and Tim Lyons have been involved in traditional music, although they have rarely sung together.
They are known for their vast collection of humorous songs; some which they have picked up along the way when living in Cork, England, Dublin and Clare and some which they have written.
They have now settled back home, John in Newmarket-on-Fergus where his children are continuing their musical tradition. Aisling and John are award winning traditional musicians in their own right. Aisling plays harp and concertina and Sean plays tin whistle and uilleann pipes.
The family are members of the Tulla Branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann and John is the Patron of Cnoc na Gaoithe the new Tulla Comhaltas Cultural Centre.
Tim now lives in County Galway with his wife Anna. Tim still sings and plays at various gatherings around Ireland. Recently he has been involved in an Irish Arts Council funded song writing project called 'The Wild Bees Nest', and has recorded his latest, and first serious, song on CD which is the culmination of the project.
Aisling Lyons (concertina) tracks 4, 8,11 and 14, Sean Lyons (tin whistle) track 8.
The sleeve notes include an interesting biography of the remarkable brothers and informative song notes.
