The third album from the four young and hugely talented Johnson sisters, from near Edinburgh, showing a new maturity in their vocal and instrumental presentation. Produced again by Phil Cunningham.
The first two albums received excellent reviews and the band is now popular in the UK, Europe and USA.
Formed in 1998, the group comprises four Johnson sisters - Fiona (fiddle, guitar, whistles, vocals), Kirsty (accordion, vocals), Amy (drums, percussion, vocals) and Mairi (keyboards, vocals).
From an early age, music was at the heart of all the Johnson sisters did. At five years old, Fiona started playing the fiddle. Kirsty picked up an accordion at four. Amy was five when she started to play accordion, then aged thirteen decided to play the drums, and Mairi was playing keyboards at the age of six.
In the years since the sisters formed their own band, GiveWay have won awards at the Celtic Connections festival and the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards. They have performed on numerous radio and television shows, and at a series of high profile venues including the main stage at Cambridge Folk Festival and Glasgow's Royal Concert Hall. They have also supported top musical acts including Aly Bain & Phil Cunningham, Karen Matheson, and Wolfstone.
Fiona's tunes feature in the instrumental sets, and there are contributions from composers Sandy Brechin, Phil Cunningham and Allan MacDonald. The songs include the title track Lost In This Song, The Poaching Song, Western Highway and The Water Is Wide.
Also featuring session musicians Ross Hamilton (bass, electric guitars), Phil Cunningham (whistle) and a string section of Mairi Campbell, Robert McFall and Sua Lee.
