A debut album which includes several traditional ballads and songs from one of Scotland's finest singers of traditional song, Dougie Mackenzie.
Dougie's voice has a warm quality and he demonsrates a great understanding in the interpretation of the songs.
Dougie Mackenzie sang mostly Gaelic songs in his youth, but was introduced to folk song at the famed Inverness Folk Club run by Duncan MacLennan, who mentored Dougie and gave him numerous songs.
Dougie is drawn to the Scots ballad language and the stories it carries to us from the past.
He lists many influences and sources, including Jimmy Hutchison, Gordeanna McCulloch, Norman Kennedy, Adam McNaughtan, Jeannie Robertson and The Stewarts of Blair.
Dougie is well-known from appearances at many Scottish and English festivals over the years and has won many traditional singing competitions including Keith, Falkland, Kirriemuir and Aberdeen.
The album was recorded and produced by Ian McCalman at his Kevock Studio and when Ian Green heard the master he immediately invited Dougie to join Greentrax.
Dougie Mackenzie (vocals), Brian Miller (guitar, cittern).
"I am delighted that Dougie has finally made this recording, an excellent selection of songs and ballads from the heart of one of Scotland's finest singers." Jimmy Hutchison.
"These are just some of the songs I've inherited Along the Way." Dougie Mackenzie.
