Description

An exciting and long-awaited album from Gaelic singer Màiri MacMillan.

The album features beautifully traditional Gaelic songs mostly from South Uist with fresh contemporary arrangements.

With a range of themes and genres including love songs, mythical songs, and waulking songs.

Màiri MacMillan from Milton in South Uist was brought up surrounded by Gaelic language, culture, music, and song.

Includes a booklet with the lyrics in Gaelic and with translations in English.

The album was arranged and produced by the creative, skilled and talented musician Mhairi Hall. Mhairi Hall (harmonium, piano, flute, and whistle), Megan Henderson (fiddle and voice), Ali Hutton (bodhrán, guitar, whistle, great highland bagpipes), Rachel Newton (clàrsach, electric harp and voice).

"The songs on this album have been learned from recordings of women, mostly from South Uist, who passed on songs for future generations. We are very fortunate to have access to many of these recordings through Tobar an Dualchais and to learn the songs from the people they came from." Màiri MacMillan.
