Aidan O'Rourke is a fiddler, composer and performer from Oban in Argyllshire. He has played with many groups, including fiddle supergroup Blazin' Fiddles and the trio Lau with Kris Drever and Martin Green. He was voted STMA Instrumentalist of the Year in 2006.
An Tobar (The Well) is a recording made during a project at An Tobar Arts Centre in Tobermory, Isle Of Mull. Inspired by the geography, music and people of Mull, Aidan wrote this work to celebrate the 10th anniversary of An Tobar. The work was composed during a residency in Tobermory when Aidan used the late Martyn Bennett's studio in An Tobar.
With poetry specially written for the project by award-winning poet Aonghas MacNeacail, the music reflects on the origins of communities and settlements on Mull and the effect of modern times on the island.
With Catriona McKay (Scottish harp), Phil Bancroft (saxophone), Martin Green (accordion) and Martin O'Neill (bodhran, percussion).
