At last re-issued on CD, this old recording is excellent quality, and is full of cracking tunes.

A six-piece band playing ten full dances. The band is led by Andrew Rankine (accordion), John Carmichael (second box), Ken Park (fiddle), Bernard Dixon (piano), Bill Craib (bass) and George Darling (drums).

Released by The Newcastle Upon Tyne & District Branch of The Royal Scottish Country Dance Society.

Andrew Rankine formed his first Band in the village of Menstrie, Clackmannanshire in 1949. He became one of the most famous Country dance band leaders, acclaimed by Scottish Dance enthusiasts and fellow Dance musicians. He was renowned for his skill as an accordionist and also for his ability as arranger and composer.

Andrew was at the forefront in the development of a new approach to Country Dance Music which gathered momentum in the early 1950's. He introduced new harmonies and added an extra dimension by making greater use of the second accordion.

After leaving Scotland in 1963 Andrew lived for nine years in Whitley Bay, within the RSCDS Newcastle Branch area, playing for many branch functions, and allowed the publication of tunes for Drumelzier and Hogmanay Jig, together with other tunes published in The Newcastle Collection Of Country Dance Tunes.

In 1972 he moved to Leicester, and set up his own studio as part of his activities there. The original recording for this remastered CD was done at that studio, together with musicians drawn from Glasgow, Edinburgh, Darlington and Chelmsford.

Subsequently he moved to California, to run a Scottish Heritage centre near Long Beach, and died shortly afterwards. His tunes were published by the Newcastle Branch in the Andrew Rankine Collection, and this reissue on CD is a tribute to the continuing demand for his music.
